Green Sage Café is proud to present a new local, certified organic kombucha, Lenny Boy.
Lenny Boy, located in Charlotte, is North Carolina’s only certified organic micro-brewery. Consisting of a close-knit team, they make every batch by hand at Lenny Boy, closely monitoring all phases of the process. Lenny Boy focuses on a clean water source to combine simple ingredients to make amazing beverages.
Owner and Brewer, Townes Mozer, shares his story, vision, and aspirations for Lenny Boy below.
What inspired you to start your business?
What made me want to start Lenny Boy was honestly a passion for fermentation and creation of interesting beverages using local ingredients whenever possible. I have been brewing for roughly 8 years. I started out with kombucha and other fermented foods. Then fermentation led me to beer and mead. However, I truly was obsessed with kombucha. After graduating college I worked at Mountain Harvest Organics in Hot Springs. There I learned the growing seasons and applied that knowledge to flavoring my kombucha. I also networked with farmers in hopes of after starting Lenny Boy commercially, I could use their produce in my recipes. We use these relationships now commercially!
Where did the name "Lenny Boy" come from?
Lenny Boy is technically my dog. I rescued him from the Charlotte Humane Society eight years ago. We were sitting around developing a business plan and Lenny Boy just rolled off the tongue and we went with it. We like to say Lenny Boy is a man's best friend including the kombucha, beer, and dog!
What aspirations do you have for your business?
My aspirations are to have a sustainable company, both financially and environmentally, with happy employees creating a high quality, organic product.
What does Nourishing Life mean to you?
Nourishing life means an environment that yields positive growth results for both mind, body, and spirit and that is what we try to do every day at Lenny Boy for our products, employees, and customers.
