Celebrate the holiday with Thomas Wolfe’s Gimcrack Day. Free admission to guided tours of Old Kentucky Home is planned for children throughout the day. Make holiday ornaments in the visitor center, see Thomas Wolfe’s boyhood home, and learn about Victorian holiday traditions. Thomas Wolfe wrote of his childhood in his novel Look Homeward, Angel; “He was liberally dowered with bright-painted gimcracks upon Christmas Day; and in his heart he hated those who advocated “useful” gifts.” A gimcrack, pronounced ˈjimˌkrak, is a cheap and showy ornament; a knickknack.
Children Admitted Free. Crafts, games, and hands-on fun!
